What Is a Performance Practice Concert?

A Performance Practice Concert is a short, informal evening at the studio where any student who wants to can get up and play something in front of a small audience of peers, parents, and family. No costumes, no big production, no pressure to be perfect — just a chance to actually play in front of people, in a room that already feels familiar.

These sessions happen most months, usually on the last Wednesday at 19:00 — we skip the months where we already have a bigger seasonal recital, in winter and in spring. That’s on purpose: Performance Practice Concerts exist specifically to build toward those recitals gradually, not to compete with them.

Performing in front of even a small audience is a genuinely different skill from playing well alone in a lesson room, and the only real way to get comfortable with that gap is to practice it — regularly, in a setting where a mistake doesn’t matter. Students who come to these sessions tend to walk into the bigger seasonal recitals already knowing what it feels like to sit down, breathe, and play with people watching. The recital becomes one more step along a path they’ve already started, not the first time they’ve ever tried it.

Any student can take part, playing whatever they’re currently working on — a whole piece, part of one, or something they only just started. There’s no grading and nothing to pass or fail. Parents and family are always welcome to come and watch.
